Glen Eira City Council

Council supports food relief agencies through a number of mechanisms, including:

• Free Food Directory Guide
• Food and meal packs for vulnerable community members from community food donations and surplus food produced in Childcare Centres. Additionally, staff and volunteer families prepare food hampers for donation to vulnerable families during the end-of-year holiday period.
• Funding for Port Phillip Community Group to coordinate emergency food relief with a range of local providers. Funding includes cost for warehousing of food, and coordination of volunteers for the program.
• Funding for Sacred Heart Mission to provide a Christmas Lunch and upskilling volunteers in their emergency food delivery and social meals program.
• Funding for the Port Phillip Eco Centre to run social gardening program with produce contributed to social meals for vulnerable community.
• Approved $100,500 in funding for 17 grants from 2023-25 that support food relief, food network capacity growth, food growing for meals, and social meals and connection for vulnerable and isolated community members.
• Limited voucher relief for vulnerable families to support key costs including food etc.
