City of Port Phillip directly delivers, coordinates and funds a range of services and support in this area including:
Council coordinates the Port Phillip Zero program that coordinates a range of relevant service providers to coordinate the allocation of vulnerable community into social (public and community) housing and emergency accommodation.
Provide information and referrals to housing and homelessness support services
Fund Launch Housing for assertive outreach services for housing information and support to assist homeless/vulnerable people to access appropriate services and rapid rehousing.
Council can allocate up to $32,000 for purpose of removalist and relocation support for goods of people experiencing homelessness
Council provides financial and property support to the construction of 26 units of housing for persons experiencing homelessness using the Common Ground model, which is currently being developed in Wellington Street, St Kilda by St Kilda Community Housing Ltd. The total value of this is over $4.755million.
$32,500 in funding for 4 grants from 2023-25 that support homeless service provision and housing provider capacity improvement.
Jewish Care believes that it is a basic human right for every person to have a safe, affordable and secure place to call home. Jewish Care’s Tenancy and Property team advocate for people in need of accommodation in the Victorian Jewish community and can assist individuals and families experiencing housing difficulties to identify and access affordable accommodation alternatives. Jewish Care can provide:
• Timely information and advice about housing options from within the private, community and public housing markets
• Access to available emergency housing and short-term and/or permanent accommodation for adults, families and seniors from within Jewish Care housing stock or through a partner agency
• Access to shared living units for people with a disability who can live independently
• Assistance with the lodging of documents and liaison with government departments and housing organisation
• Facilitation or referrals to other program areas
For those with complex needs, housing alone is often insufficient. Access and referral to other programs including the social work team the Financial Support Services, The Employment Centre and In-home Services also occur as needed.
Housing Support services are free, while rent fees are calculated on a social housing model.
Anika Legal is a non-profit providing Victorian renters with free, online legal support to stay in safe homes. We provide three services:
Repairs: Assists renters who need repairs at their rental property, and have not yet applied to VCAT.
Eviction Support: Assists renters who have received a Notice to Vacate due to rental arrears and need support to negotiate a payment plan or request more time in their rental to find their next accommodation.
Bond Recovery: Assists renters who need help negotiating resolution of a bond dispute after the landlord has already applied to VCAT.
Aliya Youth Space is an organization that provides relief and comfort to alleviate the many challenges of the Youth in our community who find themselves in necessitous circumstances. As part of our services, we provide emergency accommodation, food, clothing, employment opportunities, mental health services, and substance abuse education, engaging the services of professionals & skilled persons where necessary to further the aims of the Association. We also offer monetary funds to those who are suffering from homelessness, substance abuse and addiction, poverty, depression, anxiety, and loneliness.
Furthermore, we provide career counselling and social support to individuals who have difficult backgrounds and are interested in re-entering the workforce or pursuing further education. Click here for details.
