Saturday, October 19 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm AEDT
Following his triumphant performance at the Espy Basement in 2023, Roots Rocker Joshua Batten returns with new songs and stories, celebrating his tenth year as a singer-songwriter and solo performer!
Joshua will be bringing his one-man-show back to the basement of St Kilda’s famed Esplanade Hotel, showing off his signature brand of bluesy roots rock, combining passionate vocals, accomplished guitar playing, layered arrangements and inspirational lyrics with intricate live looping.
In the twelve months since Joshua’s last gig at the Basement, he has continued to grow his profile, performing at festivals around the country including Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival and Kiama Jazz & Blues in NSW, Fleurieu Folk Festival and Port Noarlunga Blues in SA, and Rockhampton River Festival in QLD. He has also earned an endorsement with Cole Clark Guitars, and recently released a live in the studio cover of the Bob Dylan/Jimi Hendrix classic “All Along The Watchtower”, which currently has over 2K views on YouTube.
Joshua is a genuine performer, with a rare ability to truly connect with his audience. Drawing on his personal experience with neurodiversity, his songs explore authentic reflections of his most introspective moments, humbly offered up as common and universal experiences. His live sets have resonated with audiences and made him a festival favourite, with extensive appearances at folk and blues festivals across the country.
Opening for Joshua on the night will be local eccentric, unapologetic art-pop connoisseur Montana Sharp. Marrying complex classic chord structures and motifs with modern, innovative pop songwriting, her cinematic atmosphere will make you feel like the main character of your own movie. Montana is a familiar face across the vibrant Melbourne live music scene and is also a vocalist with nationally touring tribute show Echoes of Pink Floyd.
