“This is not meant to be a diary”

Join us for this special LJLA Learning Event with Kate Garret as we examine the Dunera journey through a reading and translation of the diaries of Günter Altmann and Georg Chodziesner.

This captivating discussion will delve into the voyage of two internees to Australia aboard the Dunera in 1940. Together, we will explore two distinct yet similar documents that provide firsthand accounts of this extraordinary journey.

As we are guided through the stories of these internees, we will also explore the fascinating world of translation and delve into the considerations and nuances involved in translating these documents from German into English.

This event promises to be a captivating exploration of history, personal narratives, and the intricacies of translation.
