This captivating discussion will delve into the voyage of two internees to Australia aboard the Dunera in 1940. Together, we will explore two distinct yet similar documents that provide firsthand accounts of this extraordinary journey.
As we are guided through the stories of these internees, we will also explore the fascinating world of translation and delve into the considerations and nuances involved in translating these documents from German into English.

THE SPEAKER:
Kate Garrett is a NAATI accredited translator proficient in German to English translation. She serves a diverse clientele in commercial and private sectors. Additionally, she possesses skills in reading and translating Mandarin Chinese, Russian, and Spanish. Kate specializes in translating historical documents, poetry, and autobiographies related to the Second World War. She has been collaborating with Seumas Spark and the late Ken Inglis since 2016 and has contributed translations to the book Dunera Lives: A Visual History.
