An event every week that begins at 10:00 am on Monday, repeating until August 2022

Mahjong is an ancient Chinese game that was very popular in the 1920’s and is currently undergoing a resurgence. We will play Western Mahjong. The first 4 weeks or so of the 8 week course will be spent on familiarisation with the tiles and rules of play, focusing on playing the ‘Ordinary Mahjong’ hand. The rest of the course will be spent identifying and playing popular hands. Handouts with the basic rules of Western Mahjong and some commonly played hands will be provided.

Our Teacher : Trevor Brownrigg
Trevor Brownrigg has been playing Mahjong at least twice a week for the past 6 years, COVID permitting. He finds it challenging, and sometimes frustrating, as he likes to play some of the more unusual hands. Other players frequently ask his advice on the interpretation of rules or what hand to play with the tiles that they have. He is a Tutor at Glen Eira U3A.
