Gil Solomon ben Abraham z’’l was a young man of remarkable commitment and enthusiasm for his Judaism. In mid-September, after much discussion and an effort to restore an old pair of tefillin that had belonged to his grandfather, Gil— with the support of his father and Rabbi Channan—finally acquired his very own special pair of tefillin. This milestone marked the beginning of a beautiful journey in his spiritual growth.
Devoted to his faith, Gil embraced the mitzvah of wearing tefillin daily, sharing his joy and commitment by sending photos to his friends each morning as a testament to his love for Hashem and Judaism. His passion and dedication left an indelible mark on those around him.
With the heartbreaking passing of his precious soul, we know that Gil would have wanted others to continue his legacy by embracing the mitzvah of tefillin and using it as a means of spiritual growth in his merit. To honour Gil’s memory, we envision establishing “Gil’s Tefillin Stand” in multiple locations across Melbourne. These stands will serve as a lasting tribute to his name, encouraging generations to connect with their Judaism through this sacred mitzvah.
By putting on tefillin and reciting the timeless words of Shema Yisrael, an essential text from Jewish history recited for thousands of years, we can keep Gil’s memory alive and honor his beautiful soul. Fly high achi, we know you are watching over us with that radiant smile of yours. Xoxox.
