ABOUT GEORGE DREYFUS AM
George Dreyfus is one of Australia’s best-known classical music composers, known for his work across opera, symphonies, and film scores. Born in Germany in 1928, he migrated to Australia in 1939 and began his career as a bassoonist before shifting to composition. His iconic theme for the TV series Rush brought him widespread recognition, and his diverse body of work earned him numerous accolades, including as a member of the Order of Australia in addition to the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

A versatile composer, Dreyfus has blended European and Australian influences throughout his career, often incorporating humor and traditional elements. He has been a key figure in both high art and community music, using his talents to engage audiences and inspire future generations.

ABOUT KAY DREYFUS
Kay Dreyfus is a musicologist and historian with doctorates in both fields. She has made significant contributions through her work as a curator and author, including editing The Farthest North of Humanness and writing on Australia’s musical history. Kay’s research focuses on everyday musical experiences and notable figures in Australian music.
