Description
On 12 September 1841, Asher Hyman Hart convened a meeting of Melbourne Jewish residents and submitted a resolution that a “society be formed and called the Jewish Congregational Society.”
And so began the Melbourne Hebrew Congregation (MHC) which came into being in conjunction with this formal establishment of Jewish Congregational life. For 180 years, the MHC has been has been a proud icon, both physically & spiritually.
We are delighted to launch a year-long campaign to mark this momentous milestone as the oldest Jewish Congregation in Melbourne.
This accolade deserves a worthy celebration, so please join us as we embark on a nostalgic look forward.
