Description
Our Goal
To ensure children and families are happy, healthy and safe. This is possible when families can provide their children with the best possible foundation in life.
Our Mission
We exist to provide safety, opportunity and dignity for children and families in Victoria.
Our Values
Respect
For each other. For the earth. For ourselves.
Inclusivity
We thrive when we share, and support each other.
Integrity
We are transparent in our work.
Innovation
We strive for excellence to maximise impact.
Our Guiding Principles
* We will work with and support existing social services and Maternal and Child Health nurses;
* We will not duplicate the work of these existing social services but endeavour to add value to these services;
* We will ensure that the criteria for recipient eligibility is determined by social service agencies and not by St Kilda Mums;
* We will ensure that all goods donated are of a good quality, in working condition, and adhere to the appropriate Australian safety standards (ie. we would use the goods ourselves);
* We give everything as a gift with no expectation of return;
* We seek to save the earth’s precious resources by rehoming, recycling, reusing and repurposing as much as possible;
* We will work with partners and supporters who share our values and goals.
What does St Kilda Mums do?
St Kilda Mums recycle nursery equipment including cots, prams, and car seats, as well as clothes and other baby essentials, and sort, quality check, and safety check them to ensure they meet current Australian Safety Standards.
Who does St Kilda Mums help?
We receive requests from Maternal Child Health nurses and social workers on behalf of families in need. We then try to meet or exceed each request with quality new or pre-loved donations. We give to people who are facing a variety of challenges and hope they feel uplifted when they receive a donation from us. We view it as giving a gift that is packed with love to provide practical support and to show that someone cares.

Regional Service
Our Regional Service assists families living outside Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat.
We call our Regional Service the Every Baby Every Town Project because we believe that all children deserve a safe start, no matter where they live.
This service is funded by generous support from the Portland House, The Barr Family Foundation and the Gourlay Charitable Trust and with pro bono support from Victorian Freight Specialists. The Every Baby Every Town Project was supported by the Victorian Government in 2019.
Safe Start Service
The St Kilda Mums Safe Start Service allows us to provide emergency material aid to maternity hospitals, which is then given to families who have received no pre-natal support before the birth of their babies. These items include portable cots, prams, clothing, linen and car seats.
We currently provide emergency material to:
– The Royal Women’s Hospital
– Sandringham Hospital
– The Northern Hospital Epping
– The Royal Children’s Hospital
– Werribee Mercy Hospital
– Mercy Hospital for Women (Heidelberg)
– Sunshine Hospital
– Angliss Hospital
– Box Hill Hospital
– Frankston Hospital
– Dandenong Hospital.
This service began in 2014 with the generous support of Hire for Baby, The Dyson Bequest, The Sentinel Foundation, The Shulu Foundation, The Bruce McMullin Foundation, Besen Family Foundation, and the Naphtali Family Foundation.
You can help ensure the continuity and expansion of this project into other maternity hospitals in Victoria. If you would like to meet with our CEO for a tour of our HQ and to learn more about this project please email her. Thank you!
